La Fama.

Coronando la sede central de la Universidad de Sevilla (puerta del Rectorado en la Calle San Fernando)) se encuentra una figura alada que suele confundirse con un ángel, a lo que contribuyen unas jarras de azucenas marianistas que la flanquean. No es una criatura angelical sino la representación alegórica de la Fama.
Fama, según la mitología romana, era la mensajera de Júpiter. Por ello fué objeto de algunos préstamos iconográficos por parte de Mercurio, a quien tradicionalmente se había asignado esta función.
Para los romanos representaba la "Voz pública" y fue engendrada por la Tierra.

Habita en el centro del mundo y vive en un palacio sonoro, con mil aberturas por las que penetran las voces, rodeándose de la Credulidad, el Error, la Falsa Alegría, el Terror, la Sedición y los Falsos Rumores.
La Fama suele representarse en figura femenina (una mujer joven y vigorosa) con alas de águila sobre las nubes o en lo alto de los cielos, tocando una trompeta. 

Frecuentemente ésta es doble, lo cual indica que proclama indiscriminadamente la verdad y la mentira.

Crowning the headquarters of the University of Seville (door of the Presidency in San Fernando Street) we find a winged figure that is in the habit of getting confused with an angel, to what contribute a few pitchers of lilies that flank it. It is not an angelic creature but it is the allegoric representation of the Fame.

Fame, according to the Roman mythology, was the messenger of Jupiter. For it was an object of some iconographic lendings on the part of Mercury, to who traditionally had assigned this function.

For the Romans it was representing the "Public voice" and it was generated by the Earth.

She lives in the center of the world in a sonorous palace, with thousand opening windows for those who penetrate the voices, surrounding itself with the Credulity, the Mistake, the False Happiness, the Terror, the Sedition and the False Rumors.

The Fame is in the habit of being represented in feminine figure (a young and vigorous woman) with wings eagles on the clouds or in the high of the skies, touching a trumpet. 

Frequently this one is double, which indicates that it proclaims indiscriminately the truth and the lie.
