La Mezquita de los Osos.

En la Plaza Virgen de los Reyes nos encontramos con el Convento de la Encarnación.
Este convento se asentó sobre el edificio del antiguo Hospital de Santa Marta que lo ocupó desde 1260, poco tiempo después de conquistarse la ciudad por las tropas castellanas y cristianas.
Antes de ser hospital, este edificio fue una mezquita, pequeña, porque era simplemente para los rezos de los habitantes del barrio (la mezquita grande la tenían justo enfrente, lo que es actualmente la Catedral).
Se conservan pocos restos de esta edificación, que se pueden ver en el exterior de la iglesia conventual: en la cabecera del templo, entre la plaza de la Virgen de los Reyes y el callejón de la Plaza de Santa Marta, se ven unos arcos ciegos polilobulados que son lo más reconocible de la antigua mezquita.
A la Mezquita se le dio el nombre castellano de "Mezquita de los osos". Realmente no se conoce el origen de dicha nomenclatura, pero se supone que fue porque de esa manera sonaría el vocablo árabe que designaba a la mezquita y no porque hubiera osos en algún lugar del edificio.

In Virgen de los Reyes Square we meet the Convent of the Incarnation. This convent is on the building of the former Hospital of Holy Martha that occupied this place from 1260, a little time after the city was conquered by the Castilian and Christian troops.
Before being a hospital this building was a mosque, small, because it was simply for the prayers of the inhabitants of the neighborhood (they had the big mosque just in front of the small mosque, which is, nowadays, the Cathedral).
There remain few parts of this building, which can be seen in the exterior of the conventual church: in the head-board of the temple, between Virgen de los Reyes Square and the alley of Santa Marta Square, there see a few blind arches that are the most recognizable elements of the former mosque.

La entrada al Hospital de Santa Marta.

En la plaza Virgen de los Reyes está el conocido Convento de la Encarnación. Este convento fue edificado sobre antiguos edificios especialmente la mezquita llamada "de los osos" y el Hospital de Santa Marta" a quien pertenecía la pequeña plaza del mismo nombre que está escondida tras sus muros y que se puede visitar.
Del antiguo hospital nos queda esta entrada en la que podemos ver a la Santa en el centro y a sus lados, dos escudos en las que están las patronas de la ciudad: Santa Justa y Santa Rufina acompañadas por la Giralda
Fue fundado antes de 1380, y acrecentado en 1395 por el arcediano de Écija don Fernando Martínez, célebre por su empeño en la persecución de los judíos, quien dejó a este hospital por heredero en 1404, nombrando al cabildo eclesiástico por patrono administrador.
El archivo de este hospital está integrado por 225 libros. Son interesantes los libros de protocolos, y los de cargo y descargo, presentando la serie una continuidad cronológica desde 1476 hasta 1776.
Durante más de cuatro siglos el Hospital de Santa Marta desempeñó la función que le encomendó su fundador en 1404: dar alimento a los pobres. Para ello contaba con la propiedad de una serie de bienes inmuebles (que arrendaba) y dotaciones económicas que le permitían desarrollar holgadamente sus fines. Toda su gestión económica era tutelada y supervisada por el Cabildo Catedral, quien asumió esa función desde la fundación del hospital.

In the Virgin of the Kings Square there is the acquaintance Convento de la Encarnación. This convent was built on former buildings specially the so called mosque "of the bears" and the Hospital of Holy Martha to whom there concerned the small square of the same name that is hidden after its walls and that it is possible to visit.

Of the former hospital we still have this entry in that we can see the Holy one in the center and to her sides, two shields in that the mistresses of the city are: Holy Just and Holy Rufina accompanied by the Giralda.

It was founded before 1380, and increased in 1395 by the archdeacon of Ecija don Fernando Martinez, famous for his determination in the pursuit of the Jews, who stopped to this hospital for inheritor in 1404, naming to the ecclesiastic chapter for employer administrator.

The Archive of this hospital is integrated by 225 books. The books of protocols are interesting, and those of post and discharge, presenting the series a chronological continuity from 1476 until 1776.

During more than four centuries the Hospital of Holy Martha recovered the function that his founder entrusted it in 1404: to give food to the poor. 

For it, it was possessing the property of a series of real estate (that it was hiring) and economic endowments that were allowing it to develop widely the objetives. All its economic management was supervised by the Chapter Cathedral, who assumed this function from the foundation of the hospital.

El crucero de la Plaza de Santa Marta.

El callejón y la Plaza de Santa Marta son un pasaje estrecho y un lugar abierto muy pequeños situados a la espalda del Convento de la Encarnación y de la Plaza Virgen de los Reyes.
en el centro de dicha plaza hay situado un crucero (que vemos en la foto) del siglo XVI que procede del Hospital de San Lázaro y que se instaló aquí en el siglo XX tras la reurbanización de esta zona.

The Santa Marta´s alley and Square are a very small passage and an opened place that are at the back of the Incarnation´s Convent next to  the Virgin of the Kings Square.
In the center of the above mentioned small square it has placed a cruise (that we see in the photo) made in  the 16th century that comes from San Lázaro's Hospital and it was installed here in the 20th century after the reurbanization of this area.
