En las procesiones de la Semana Santa de Sevilla no pueden faltar los cirios y las cruces. Son dos elementos que acompañan a nazarenos y penitentes. Tienen su significado religioso y su simbolismo histórico.

El penitente pena su culpa cargando con su cruz durante el recorrido de la procesión. El nazareno alumbra el camino de su cofradía con los cirios. Recordemos que estas costumbres se tomaron cuando las procesiones salían, hace siglos, sobre calles poco o nada iluminadas, e incluso algunas salían a campo abierto hacia las iglesias o ermitas extramuros.
