El ruinoso estado de San Lázaro.

La iglesia de San Lázaro es una pequeña iglesia que podemos ver junto al Hospital del mismo nombre y muy cerca del cementerio de San Fernando.
Desgraciadamente, como podemos ver en la foto, lleva más de una década esperando una restauración para disfrutar de ella y abrirla al culto religioso.
Pero esta iglesia y este hospital tiene su larga historia. La Iglesia y Hospital de San Lázaro, tercer hospital de Santo Domingo, fue ordenado construir mediante las Leyes de Indias en el año 1573 para atender especialmente a los enfermos de lepra y a la población de escasos recursos que padecía enfermedades contagiosas en nuestra ciudad.
Recordemos que, por aquellos entonces, los barcos de Indias venían a Sevilla y aquí se concentraba una gran población y aquí también, llegaban las nuevas enfermedades del Nuevo Mundo.
El templo es de una sola nave, de coro alto y ábside poligonal cubierta con bóveda esquinada. Puede verse, en el dintel del portal, la figura del santo patrono cuyas heridas lame un perro.

San Lázaro's church is a small church that we can see close to the Hospital of the same name and closely together of San Fernando's cemetery.

But this church and this hospital has a long history. The San Lázaro's Church and Hospital, the third hospital of Santo Domingo, was ordered to construct in the Laws of The Indies in the year 1573 to attend specially to the patients of leprosy and to the population of scanty resources who was suffering contagious diseases in our city.
Let's remember that, for that time, the ships of The Indies were coming to Seville and a great population was centering here and here also, were coming the new diseases of the New World.
The temple has an alone zone, of high choir and polygonal apse covered with square vault. You can see, in the lintel of the portal, the figure of the Saint Lazare whose wounds a dog licks them.
