La Maestranza de Artillería.

El edificio de la Maestranza de Artillería nació poco después de la toma de la ciudad a los musulmanes por el Rey Fernando III el Santo.
A este edificio se le llamo Atarazanas porque se dedicó, en un primer momento, a la construcción de galeras y embarcaciones en este lugar, extramuros y cerca del río.
Con el paso del tiempo, el edificio tuvo otras funciones, con lo que las diecisietes naves góticas que la componen sufrieron cierta reestructuración.
La mayoría quedó para almacén de artillería del ejercito español, de ahí el nombre que todavía rige en el frontón de su puerta principal. En 1782, las Maestranzas de Cádiz y Málaga se funden en la de Sevilla, quedando ésta como abastecedora única para Andalucía y Extremadura; y un año más tarde, también para la América hispana, lo cual conlleva una nueva operación arquitectónica que configura el edificio y su emblemática fachada tal como hoy se ve.

The building of the Artillery Maestranza was born soon after the capture of the city to the Muslims for the King Fernando III the Saint.
This building was called Dockyards because was dedicated, in the first moment, to the construction of galleys and crafts in this place, outside and near the river.
With the past of time, the building had other functions, whent the seventeen Gothic rooms that compose it suffered certain restructuring.
The majority stayed for store of artillery of the Spanish army, this is the razon becaouse of the name who still applies in the top part of its principal door. In 1782, the Cadiz and Malaga Artillery Maestranza awent to Seville, staying this one as only supplying for Andalusia and Estremadura; and one year later, also for the Hispanic America, which carries a new architectural operation that forms the building and its emblematic front door like we can see today.
