El centro de la Plaza de Pilatos está dominado por esta insigne estatua con un no menos insigne pedestal de piedra blanca. Representa a Zurbarán, pintor coetáneo de Velázquez, extremeño de Fuentedecantos y alumno de Juan de Roelas.
Fue pintor del Rey, protegido del Conde Duque de Olivares y muchas de sus obras fueron vendidas a grandes familias que se desplazaron a las Indias a hacer negocios. Después fueron los conventos e iglesias americanas los que hicieron universal a este artista que hizo de Sevilla su casa.
Recomiendo visitar el Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla para admirar su ingente obra.

The center of Pilatos's Plaza is dominated by this statue and its beautiful pedestal made in white stone. It represents to Zurbarán, contemporary painter of Velázquez, Extremaduran from Fuentedecantos and pupil of Juan de Roelas.
He was a painter of the King, protected from the Count Duke of Olivares ands and many of his works were sold to big families that moved to the Indies to do business. Later it was the convents and American churches who made universal this artist.
I recommend to visit the Museum of Fine arts of Seville to admire his enormous work.
