Junto a la puerta principal de la Taberna del Alabardero podemos ver esta placa dedicada a un personaje sevillano relativamente poco conocido: Juan Antonio de Cavestany y González Nandín.
Cavestany nació en Sevilla en la noche del 31 de diciembre del año 1861 en esta misma casa. En Sevilla pasó los años de su infancia.
A los 13 años publica su primer librito de versos y antes de cumplir los 16 años, estrenó en el teatro Español su famoso drama "El Esclavo de su culpa".
El éxito que alcanzó esta obra fue muy grande.
Fue militante del Partido Conservador y ganó su asiento, primero, en el Congreso en 1891, representando a Andalucía, siendo Diputado en seis legislaturas y, después, en el Senado siendo Senador dos veces, en este caso representando a Salamanca.
Ingresó Cavestany, en 1902, en la Real Academia de la Historia, y fue Vicepresidente del Congreso con el Gobierno de Raimundo Fernández Villaverde. Fue condecorado, entre otras cruces, con la Gran Cruz del Cristo de Portugal.
Falleció el día 7 de diciembre del año 1924 en Madrid.
El ayuntamiento sevillano le dedicó esta placa en atención a las alabanzas que el autor emitió sobre la ciudad de Sevilla en la obra más arriba mencionada.

He was a militant of the Conservative party and gained his seat, first, in the Congress in 1891, representing Andalusia, being Delegated in six legislatures and, later, in the Senate being Senator two times, in this case representing Salamanca.
Cavestany joined, in 1902, the Royal Academy of the History, and was Vice-president of the Congress with the Government of Raimundo Fernandez Villaverde. It was decorated, between other crosses, with the Great Cross of the Christ of Portugal.
He expired on December 7, 1924 in Madrid.
The Sevillian town hall dedicated this plate in consideration of the praises that the author issued on the city of Seville in the work more above mentioned.
