Alcázar (1): La Puerta del león.

Durante este mes de Septiembre vamos a dedicar nuestras fotos a uno de los edificios más emblemáticos de nuestra ciudad: el Alcázar, el palacio real más antiguo de Europa.
Hoy empezamos con la entrada del mismo, llamada "Puerta del león", en honor a la imagen que está superpuesta al hueco de entrada.
Antes se llamaba "Puerta de la Montería" porque era la entrada al patio del mismo nombre. A partir de 1894, momento en que se colocó la imagen del león, se le llamó con el nuevo nombre. el azulejo muestra un león heráldico con una corona y una cruz pisoteando una bandera.
El arco de entrada era originalmente del tipo de herradura, aunque hoy es un arco de medio punto. El resto de esta fachada está pintada de rojo.

During this September we are going to dedicate our photos to one of the most emblematic buildings of our city: the Alcazar, the most ancient royal palace in Europe.
Today we begin our photo collection with the entry of the Alcazar, so called "Door of the lion", in honor to the image that is superposed to the hollow of entry.

Before it was called a " Door of the Monteria" because it was the entry to the court of the same name.
From 1894, moment in which the image of the lion was placed, it was called with the new name. The blue roller shows a heraldic lion with a wreath and a cross trampling on a flag.
The arch of entry was originally of the type of horse-shoe, though today it is a round arch. The rest of this front is painted in red.
