Alcázar (38): El Jardín de la Cruz.



En tiempos de Felipe IV, rey mecenas de las artes, se mandó construir en 1626 un laberinto alrededor de un montículo que representaba al monte Parnaso.
Dentro del montículo hay unas esculturas de ninfas.
Aunque hoy no quedan más que algunos restos, podemos imaginar la estructura sinuosa elaborada con mirto. Esta planta simbolizaba en la Antigüedad el amor y la belleza, y con coronas de mirto se honraba a los campeones olímpicos. Se trató quizá de un homenaje al propio monarca, apodado “El Grande”.


Alcazar (38): The Garden of the Cruise.

In times of Felipe IV, king lord of the arts, got about himself to construct in 1626 a labyrinth about a small mount that was representing to the mount Parnassus.
Inside the mount there are a few nymphs' sculptures.
more than any remains, we can imagine the sinuous structure elaborated with myrtle. This plant was symbolizing in the Antiquity the love and the beauty, and by wreaths of myrtle the Olympic champions were honoring. It was a question probably as an honoring the monarch, the nicknamed "The Big".

Alcázar (37): La Fuente de Sanlúcar.



La estrella dentro de los Jardines de los Poetas es la Fuente de Sanlúcar, dos albercas y una fuente central que fueron traidos de un convento de Sanlúcar de Barrameda, en la provincia de Cádiz.

The star inside the Gardens of the Poets is the Fountain of Sanlucar, two ponds and a central fountain that they were worn from a Sanlucar de Barrameda's convent, in the province of Cadiz.

Alcázar (36): El Jardín de los Poetas.



El Jardín de los Poetas se incluye dentro de los llamados "Jardines Nuevos" y fue el último en proyectarse, en concreto, se finalizó en 1958.
Está inspirado en el cercano Parque de María Luisa e incluye dos grandes albercas rodeada de setos.


Es de estilo romántico con influencia del llamado estilo “Forestier” del Parque de María Luisa.
Combina parterres irregulares y glorietas con estanques o fuentes. Predominan los setos, naranjos y palmeras que forman tres niveles de vegetación.


Alcazar (36): The Garden of the Poets.

The Garden of the Poets is included inside the so called " New Gardens " and it was the last one to be projected,  it was concluded in 1958.
It is inspired in Maria Luisa's nearby Park and includes two big ponds surrounded with hedges.


It is built in romantic style with influence of the so called style "Forestier" of Maria Luisa's Park.
It combines irregular flowerbeds and summer-houses with reservoirs or fountains. They predominate over the hedges, orange trees and palms that form three levels of vegetation.

Alcázar (35): El Jardín del Retiro del Marqués.



El Jardín del Retiro del Marqués está situado justo detrás de la Galería del Grutesco y linda con la antigua muralla que da al "Callejón del Agua", en el exterior Barrio de Santa Cruz.
Este espacio es uno de los más amplios de recinto con dieciseis hectáreas. destacan las fuentes que adornan los cruces de los cuadriculados caminos del jardín.
El nombre del Jardín viene dado porque en este emplazamiento existía antes una huerta que tenía el mismo nombre.
Perteneció al Marqués de la Vega-Inclán.


Alcazar (35): The Garden of the Retirement of the Marquess.

The Garden of the Retirement of the Marquess is placed just behind the Gallery of the Grotesque and borders on the former wall that gives to the "Alley of the Water", in the exterior Neighborhood of Santa Cruz.
This space is one of the most wide of enclosure with sixteen hectares. Stand out the fountains that adorn the crossings of the squared ways of the garden.
The name of the Garden is because of in this emplacement there were before a garden with the same name.

Alcázar (34): El Jardín de la Alcoba.




El Jardín de la Alcoba es el lugar que ocupaba antiguamente la huerta que satisfacía las necesidades alimenticias de los habitantes del palacio. Está situada junto al Jardín de las Damas y a la Galería del Grutesco, lugar donde se levantó la Puerta del Privilegio para comunicar este jardín con el Jardín del Retiro del Marqués.


Destaca dentro del jardín el Pabellón de Carlos V que es el edificio más antiguo de los jardines. Antes de convertirse en lugar de descanso del Emperador Carlos V en sus últimos días fue una qubba u oratorio musulmán.
Junto a este edificiose construyó otro que se llamó el "Cenador del León", llamado así por la escultura que hay junto al estanque.


Alcazar (34): The Garden of the Bedroom.

The Garden of the Bedroom is the place that was occupying former the garden that was satisfying the nourishing needs of the people in the palace. It is placed close to the Garden of the Ladies and the Gallery of the Grotesque, place where the Door of the Privilege got up to communicate this garden with the Garden of the Retirement of the Marquess.


Stands out inside the garden the Pavilion of Carlos V who is the most ancient building in the gardens. Turning instead of rest of the Emperor Carlos V in his last days was a qubba or oratorical Muslim.
Together with this building he constructed other one that there called the " Diner of the Lion ", called this way by the sculpture that exists close to the reservoir.

Alcázar (33): La Fuente de la Fama.



Existe en el Jardín de las Damas una fuente auténticamente excepcional. Sobre la pared de la Galería del Grutesco, Vermondo Resta planificó una fuente que emitía música: la Fuente de la Fama.


El nombre de la fuente se lo otorgó por la escultura que corona la fuente, la llamada "Trompeta de la Fama".
Dotada de esculturas de cariátides y hermes, dispone de un mecanismo que, con los movimientos de agua, provoca sonidos en los tubos metálicos.

Alcazar (33): The Fountain of the Fame.

An authentically exceptional fountain exists in the Garden of the Ladies. On the wall of the Gallery of the Grotesque, Vermondo Resta planned a fountain that emitted music: the Fountain of the Fame.


The name of the fountain was because of the sculpture that crowns it, so called "Trumpet of the Fame".
Endowed with sculptures of caryatids and hermes, it has a mechanism that, with the water movements, provokes sounds in the metallic pipes.

Alcázar (32): El Jardín de las Damas




El Jardín de las Damas está situado entre los Jardines Históricos, el Jardín de la Alcoba y la Galería de los Grutescos. Inicialmente era un jardín pequeño que limitaba extramuros con huertas públicas, pero los habitantes del palacio se sentían incomodados porque desde fuera se escuchaban las conversaciones en el jardín.
A fin de garantizar la intimidad de la familia real y de sus invitados, se encargó a Vermondo Resta la ampliación del jardín de las Damas de manera que se pudiera pasear por él sin ser observado por extraños.
Tiene cuatro mil metros cuadrados y el artista milanés dividió el espacio en ocho cuarteles de setos.
El nombre del jardín viene dado porque existían en él unas esculturas de las diosas Hera, Atenea, Afrodita y la Reina Helena.


Alcazar (32): The Garden of the Ladies.

The Garden of the Ladies is placed between the Historical Gardens, the Garden of the Bedroom and the Gallery of the Grotesque. Initially it was a small garden that was bordering outside on public gardens, but the inhabitants of the palace were feeling troubled because from out the conversations were listened out the garden.
In order to guarantee the intimacy of the royal family and of their guests, the King entrusted to Vermondo Resta the extension of the garden of the Ladies so that it was possible to walk along it without being observed by strangers.
It has four thousand square meters and the Milanese artist divided the space in eight barracks of hedges.
The name of the garden comes because a few sculptures of the goddesses Hera, Atenea, Aphrodite and the Hellene Queen were in it.
