La calavera y la serpiente.



La Iglesia del Pozo Santo depende del Hospital del mismo nombre que está junto a ella.
Haciendo una breve historia, el Hospital del Pozo Santo, también conocido por Hospital del Cristo de los Dolores, en realidad es el Beaterio de Terciarias Franciscanas de Sevilla que en 1946 se convirtió en Congregación religiosa de derecho diocesano.
Su fundación se debe a dos extraordinarias mujeres: Marta de Jesús, cordobesa de Priego, y Beatriz Jerónima de la Concepción, sevillana, quienes, ya viudas, y después de ejercer su labor caritativa en otros lugares, compraron en 1667 el solar para la construcción del Hospital del Santísimo Cristo de los Dolores en la plaza del Pozo Santo. Con este nombre se ha conocido en Sevilla este hospital para enfermas e impedidas.
La iglesia (En la foto podemos verla) se edificó entre 1669 y 1682, y fue consagrada el día 4 de febrero de 1682.
En la parte superior del friso de entrada hay una cruz con una calavera y una serpiente, recordándonos lo breve que es nuestra vida en la tierra y lo grande que es la vida tras la muerte junto a Dios.



The church of the Holy Well depends on the Hospital of the same name that is next to it.
Making a brief history, the Hospital of the Holy Well, also known by Hospital of the Christ of Dolores, actually it is the Institution for pious old women of Tertiary Franciscan of Seville that in 1946 turned into religious Congregation of diocesan law.
Its foundation was thaks to two extraordinary women: Marta de Jesus and Beatriz Jerónima of the Concepcion, who, already widows, and after exercising her charitable labor in other places, bought in 1667 the lot for the construction of the Hospital of the Holiest Christ de los Dolores in the square of the Holy Well.
With this name this hospital has been known in Seville for sick and disabled.
The church (In the photo we can see it) was built between 1669 and 1682, and was sacred on February 4, 1682.
In the top part of the frieze of entry there is a cross with a skull and a serpent that remember us that our life in the land is short and the the life after the death together with God is longer.
