La fuente de las abluciones.



La historia de la Iglesia del Salvador tiene sus orígenes en el Imperio Romano, existiendo entonces una pequeña basílica en este lugar.
Tras la conquista por los moros de la ciudad de Sevilla, en este lugar se creó una mezquita a principios del siglo IX, siendo centro de religiosidad de la ciudad hasta la aparición de la Mezquita mayor en el lugar que ocupa actualmente la Catedral.
Como mezquita de importancia, esta construcción tenía su patio de los naranjos, un espacio abierto cuyo centro estaba ocupado por la fuente de la foto, una fuente dedicada para las abluciones de los creyentes antes de entrar a orar en la mezquita.

The history of the Salvador Church has his origins in the Roman Empire, existing then a small basilica in this place.
After the conquest for the Moors of the city of Seville, in this place a mosque was created at the beginning of the 9th century, being a center of religiousness of the city up to the appearance of the major Mosque in the place that occupies nowadays the Cathedral.
As important mosque, this construction had its court of the orange trees, an opened space which center was occupied by the fountain of the photo, a fountain dedicated for the ablutions of the believers before beginning to pray in the mosque.
