Real Provisión de los Contadores Reales.



Son innumerables los tesoros que posee el Alcázar de Sevilla. Muchos de ellos están expuestos al público para que podamos conocerlos.
Es el caso de este legajo del siglo XV, una Real Provisión de los Contadores Reales, quienes, en nombre de los Reyes Católicos, la emiten en Alcalá de Henares el 2 de Abril de 1498 y va dirigida al Secretario Real Don Francisco Ramírez de Madrid.
Se trata de un documento de finiquito del periodo en el que el Secretario Real ejerció como Obrero Mayor del Alcázar y Atarazanas de Sevilla (1478-1495)
El documento en forma de cuaderno de 64 páginas va cosido a un estuche realizado en pergamino, con refuerzos de cuero en el lomo y cierre de botón, formado por 16 pliegos de papel.
El texto está escrito en tinta ocre en escritura cortesana, característica de la Cancillería Real Castellana de esta época.

There are innumerable the exchequers that the alcazar of Seville possesses. Many of them are exposed to the public in order that we could know them.
It is the case of this 15th century book, a Royal Provision of the Royal Book-keepers, who, in name of the Kings Católicos, issue it in Alcala de Henares On April 2, 1498 and it is directed to the Royal Secretary Don Francisco Ramirez de Madrid.
It is a document of quittance of the period in which the Royal Secretary practised as Major Worker of the Alcazar and Dockyards of Seville (1478-1495).
The document in the shape of notebook of 64 pages is sewed to a casing realized in parchment, with reinforcements of leather in the loin and closing button formed by 16 sheets of paper.
The text is written in ocher ink in court writing, typical of the Royal Castilian Chancery of this epoch.

  1. Fascinating, and the vocabulary was rather challenging. Without the translation I would have been lost. At first I wondered if contadores migh be story-tellers!

  2. Hello James, really the word "contadores" in ancient spanish means the people who count the incomes and expenses of the goverment, specially of the kings who are de lords of the country.
