La cabecera de nuestra iglesia Catedral está ocupada por la llamada Capilla Real. Desde el exterior es muy fácil distinguirla porque en su fachada semicircular hay tallados un total de diez escudos reales, cinco de un tipo y otros cinco de otro.
El primero, el de la foto de arriba, que representa a la Corona de Castilla y León.
El segundo tipo, el de la foto de abajo, que representa el escudo imperial (con el águila bicéfala y la corona imperial) que tomó forma bajo el Imperio de Carlos I.
Esta capilla fue realizada en 1569 por Hernán Ruiz el joven. En dicha capilla está ubicado el panteón donde permanece el cuerpo del Rey Fernando el Santo, su hijo Alfonso X el Sabio y su madre Beatriz de Suabia.
Bajo esta capilla existe otro panteón donde están enterrados otros monarcas como Pedro I de Castilla, llamado por unos el Cruel y por otros el Justiciero.
El altar de esta capilla está presidida por la Virgen de los Reyes, patrona de la ciudad de Sevilla.
The head wall of the Cathedral is occupied by the Royal Chapel. From the exterior it is very easy to distinguish it because in its semicircular front it has carved ten royal shields, five of a type and other five of other one.
The first one, in the above photo, represents to the Crown of Castile and León.
The second type, in the below photo, represents the imperial shield (with the two-headed eagle and the imperial crown) that took form under the Empire of Carlos I.
This chapel was realized in 1569 by Hernán Ruiz the young. In the above mentioned chapel is located the pantheon where the body of the King Fernando the Holy remains, his son Alfonso X the Wise and his mother Beatriz de Suabia.
Under this chapel another pantheon exists where other monarches are buried as Pedro I of Castile, called by some people the Cruel and, for others, the Stickler for justice.
The altar of this chapel is presided by the Virgin of the Kings, mistress of the city of Seville.
